The Angel Of God Visits Moses
By Senior Pastor Dr. Bill Rains | February 4, 2024
Turn to Exodus 3:1-10. Today’s sermon, “The Angel Of God Visits Moses,” is the fourth in our angelic encounters series. The text reads: “The angel of the Lord appeared… in a flame… I will send thee unto Pharaoh.” Let’s pray: Father, thank You for this Sunday, our teachers, and guests. Touch hearts, save the lost, in Jesus’ name, Amen.
Moses, raised Egyptian yet Hebrew, fled to Midian after killing a taskmaster. For 40 years, he shepherded Jethro’s flocks. One day, a bush burned unconsumed; the angel of God spoke, commissioning him to deliver Israel from Egypt. Three lessons emerge from this holy encounter.
After Others’ Spiritual Involvement
“I have seen the affliction of my people… heard their cry” (vv. 7, 9). Israel prayed through slavery’s toil—every sickle swing a plea for deliverance. God visited Moses after generations of their faith. His mom hid him, Miriam watched, and Pharaoh’s daughter adopted him—all spiritual acts paving his path. We must pray and engage spiritually for God to move in our families and nation. Involvement matters!
Stirring Interest In God’s Work
“I will now turn aside and see this great sight” (v. 3). The burning bush piqued Moses’ curiosity—he turned aside from routine. God stirs hearts uniquely—a song luring folks to an all-day meeting, a church fire drawing a skeptic, or a Samaritan woman’s testimony. One heart ablaze can spark deliverance. Are we on fire enough to draw others to Christ?
Informed Of God’s Holiness
“Put off thy shoes… the place… is holy ground” (v. 5). Approaching, Moses heard God’s command—reverence His holiness. Worship demands respect, not casualness. I recall a preacher friend’s quip: “Did you bring anything to get something?” Over 45 years, I’ve seen reverence wane—yet God, our Kingly Dad, deserves our best. A tie or torn Levi’s? I’d honor my royal Father. Holiness shapes our attitude and actions.
