This Sunday, March 24th, 2024, we commemorate a pivotal moment in the life of Jesus Christ: Palm Sunday.

A Joyous Arrival: As Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey, the crowds hailed him as their king, waving palm branches and shouting praises. This fulfilled the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9: "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.'"

A Week of Significance: Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most significant week in the Christian calendar. It precedes the events of the Last Supper, the Crucifixion, and the glorious Resurrection of Christ.

Reflecting on the Cross: While the crowds on Palm Sunday celebrated Jesus as their King, they soon turned against him. Their joy would soon turn to sorrow, foreshadowing the sacrifice Jesus would make on the cross for our sins. The action of the crowds, laying down palm branches and outer clothing, was their way of hoping he'd deliver them from the Roman Government and be King of Israel. When he did not do this, in just a few days, the fickle crowd turned against him screaming "Crucify him, Crucify him".

A Call to Worship: This Palm Sunday, let us join in the spirit of worship and praise that filled the air as Jesus entered Jerusalem. Let us reflect on the sacrifice He was about to make and the eternal redemption it brings. Following his crucifixion and resurrection from the grave multitudes have accepted him as Saviour and King of their hearts. Churches today still celebrate Psalm Sunday with branches as a token of our acknowledgment that he is LORD.

Will you join us this Sunday, receive a branch, and invite Jesus to be King of your life?

Let us rejoice in the King of Kings!

Matthew 21:1-11 KJV

1And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, Saying unto them, Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto me. And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, The Lord hath need of them; and straightway he will send them. All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass. And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, And brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set him thereon. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10 And when he was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.
